Who are you to judge?

Time and time again…I am reminded of this.  This weekend with my tattoo artist was a great reminder of this.  Many times, they are judged because they may be covered in ink or piercings, wear different clothes etc.  But what does the external look of a person have anything to do with what really matters and that is their heart and their intent in life.

Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. ~ Matthew 7:1-2

When I laid on the table to get my scripture tattoo, my intention was to put in my headphones and listen to my praise music as he was working.  But…in my profession, I am in a constant state of curiosity.  I wanted to break the awkward moment and just started asking questions as I usually do. I am amazed by the passion, humbleness, goodness and state of being from folks I meet day to day.  Often learning that they are smiling in the midst of their storms of life!  Just so you know, I spent the entire time talking to him about his wife, daughter, passions and profession.  I left there with mad respects for a man that is an awesome husband, father and living his life living his passion of artistry.  HE ROCKS!

I personally have been judged many times based on my look, my weight, my nationality, my profession, my hobbies, my faith, etc.  I’ve been put in a box and labeled.  They’ve given me limited expectations based on their judgements.  BUT…give me 5 minutes with that person, with that group, with that audience.  Just 5 minutes and I will BREAK their misconception of who I am.  With a smile, humor  and a big dose of my southern accent of course. 🙂

Many times, we have a preconceived notion of what a person may be thinking, feeling, living…but we truly have NO idea. Don’t judge a person by your impression, get to know them first. You may learn a thing or two about them…but more importantly…about yourself.
